Hello and welcome to the 8th episode of the Language Meanderings podcast and for those of you who listened to the 3rd episode, in which I was describing some my son’s speech, pronunciation in Spanish I mentioned that I contacted a bilingual speech therapy clinic in Houston and today I had an interview with Ivan Mejia, M.A., CCC-SLP, who is the founder and co-owner of the Bilingual Speech Therapy of Houston. So, here is the interview I had with him and I hope you enjoy this.

Bio of Ivan Mejia,, M.A., CCC-SLP,
Ivan Mejia, M.A., CCC-SLP is the founder and co-owner of Bilingual Speech Therapy of Houston, PLLC. In addition, he is a bilingual speech-language pathologist that is licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and fully certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to practice speech-language pathology. In 1998, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders with cum laude designation from Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. He received his Master’s degree from the University of Houston in 2000. Since graduating, he has gained a multitude of experiences in his work with Spanish and English speaking children and adults in Texas and in New England. His experience includes practicing speech-language pathology in a variety of settings such as private residences, schools, Head Start facilities, daycares, outpatient hospital settings, private practice, short term acute care, long term acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, nursing homes, and skilled nursing facilities. In addition to traditional service provision, Mr. Mejia has worked as a hospital based speech-language pathology and audiology department supervisor, clinical fellow supervisor, speech therapy assistant supervisor, an ASHA S.T.E.P. mentor to graduate and undergraduate speech-language pathology students, and as co-chair of the Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (CLD) Committee of the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA).
